The Importance of Formative and Summative Assessments

How Leaders of Evolutions Utilises Formative and Summative Assessments

Engaging in formative and summative assessments is the best way to ensure that students gain positive outcomes during their learning journeys. At Leaders of Evolution, we want our students to exceed all previous learning expectations and grow into the leaders we know they can become. Our team is committed to helping your students thrive while saving teachers’ valuable time. Excellence is always expected with Leaders of Evolution

Defining Formative and Summative Assessments

So, what are formative and summative assessments and how can they benefit your school community? Firstly, formative assessments monitor student learning to provide ongoing feedback that can be used to improve their learning. These are especially helpful for teachers when monitoring student progress and for students when evaluating their own learning.

Summative assessments evaluate student learning at the end of an instructional unit by comparing it against some standard or benchmark. Teachers can use these to make changes for future lessons, and students can gain a concrete understanding of their overall performances. Formative and summative assessments are extremely useful when measuring student progress. To ensure that our courses are working and that your students are both learning and growing from our programs, Leaders of Evolution offers both formative and summative assessments as needed.

What Kind of Formative and Summative Assessments Can I Expect with Leaders of Evolution?

Our e-learning hub, available on any device, anywhere, and anytime, provides teachers with everything that they need to ensure a successful school year. By implementing formative assessments throughout the entirety of the course, and summative assessments upon completion, you will be able to properly reward and acknowledge your students’ success. Each of our courses is made as simple as possible for both you and your students. The Young Leaders in Sport On-field e-learning course, for example, is designed to give students all the information and tools needed to challenge them to new levels of leadership performance on the field of play. This specific course is complete with 7 Lessons, 49 Topics, 25 Quizzes, and 1 Course Certificate. By the end of the course, your students will be feeling more confident in their own abilities as well as their ability to improve the performance of those around them.

Our self-awareness assessment is a great example of a formative assessment at the beginning of our course. At Leaders of Evolution, we believe that developing self-awareness allows one to understand the impact that they have on others through their behaviour and identify their areas of strength and the areas they feel they need to review and grow. This initial formative assessment will be instrumental when comparing their growth for a final summative assessment on self-awareness towards the end of the course. Each lesson is concluded with a summative self-assessment so that teachers can make sure that their students are on track with the program and not falling behind from the rest of the class.
