Breaking Down Bullies With Project Rockit

A study made by the National Center for Education Statistics shares a terrifying statistic that one of every five students reports being bullied in their lifetime. Whether it be face to face or behind a screen, bullying is something that every student is all too familiar with. Too often are children forced to fight these battles alone. Thanks to Project Rockit and Leaders of Evolution, students can feel more prepared to combat bullies, break the bystander effect, and to always do the right thing.

Tackling Bullying In School: Project Rockit

Project Rockit is an immersive e-learning program that aims to empower students in combating bullies, hate and prejudice rather than standing idly by. Their workshops explore themes such as inclusion, respectful relationships, leadership, diversity, values, ethics, and empathy. With a variety of options to engage in, Project Rockit has a program for every school. As cyberbullying statistics continue to rise, this youth-led project works hard to prepare students for every possible scary scenario.

Their unique approach to education follows a ‘show not tell’ learning style that focuses on students’ strengths. The ‘show not tell’ approach uses roleplays, activities, experiments and interactive discussion to ensure that each student is fully engulfed with their e-learning program. Being a project driven by the youth themselves, young people are put front and centre of the discussion.

With Project Rockit, students are forced to confront their unease to strengthen their empathy. Your students will learn tangible skills to maintain their digital well-being, including how to look out for their friends online, take positive actions on the issues they care about, and how to use technology to foster healthy social connection.

All About Leaders of Evolution

Like Project Rockit, this e-learning program works hard to provide students with the skills necessary to create a positive impact on their school community. Leaders of Evolution provides students with an innovatively designed e-learning experience that equips them with newfound knowledge about their own capabilities.

We know that every school has individual goals that they hope to achieve and problems that they hope to get rid of. That is why each e-learning program is fully customised for you. This ensures maximum outcomes for your students and school community. Regardless of customisation, each of our e-learning programs at Leaders of Evolution follows our 4 C’s Learning Framework.

Using the 4 C’s To Break the Bystander Effect

Psychology Today defines the bystander effect as an incident “when the presence of others discourages an individual from intervening in an emergency situation, against a bully, or during an assault or other crime. The greater the number of bystanders, the less likely it is for anyone of them to provide help to a person in distress.” Leaders of Evolution encourages students to use the 4 C’s to be an active bystander and to intervene when they see their peers experiencing any act of intolerance.

Competence:

Relates to the skills the learner is developing whether they be technical (what) or tactical (how) and is intrinsically linked to performance outcomes. A competent student is one who quickly knows right from wrong. They know what needs to be done to protect their peers and how to stand up against bullies.

Confidence:

Relates to the development of positive self-worth and recognition that the learner can use the knowledge gained to influence themselves and others. A confident student feels comfortable defending themself or others against bullies. One who displays confidence is able to pick themself up when times get tough as they know their self-worth cannot be determined by anyone but themself.

Character:

Relates to how the learner develops a sense of self-awareness and behaviours such as empathy, integrity and responsibility within the communities they apply their learning. These behaviours are absolutely essential in being an active bystander. At Leaders of Evolution, we believe having good character means being a good friend to your classmates and always doing the right thing.

Connectedness:

Relates to how the learner is able to establish and foster positive working relationships within the environments they apply their learning. Students who display connectedness constantly think about the effects their actions have on others. They value the feelings of others and always work towards creating a sense of community around them.
