Resilience Project GEM – Know Why It’s Important For Leaders
As we begin the year 2021, it is important to look back at 2020 and learn from our struggles and successes. For many of us, 2020 will go down in history as one of the most difficult yet rewarding years of our lives. Not only did humanity have to battle a global pandemic, but we also had to fight for racial justice and other personal struggles.
The start of January is an opportunity for every individual to create resolutions and goals they hope to accomplish in the new year. Like many, I also have created my own resolutions and things I hope to achieve in 2021. One of my resolutions involves self-love and personal development. The year 2020 has brought obstacles to my future that I never saw coming! However, I hope to use my past experiences to prepare myself for challenges ahead, and I hope to incorporate more gratitude, empathy, and mindfulness into my daily routine.
Just like my resolutions, the Resilience Project is an organisation dedicated to working with schools in Australia and teaching students about the importance of gratitude, empathy, and mindfulness (GEM). The Resilience Project GEM is a unique approach to mental health and personal development. Similarly, Leaders of Evolution understands the importance of the Resilience Project GEM and how these personal development skills are the first step in building student leadership. As an eLearning education provider site, Leaders of Evolution believes that academic education is just as important as personal education.
Resilience Project GEM
Between presentations, school curriculums, and hosted events, the Resilience Project works to educate students on important mental health practices. Since starting in 2008, the Resilience Project has partnered with over 500 workplaces and 1,000 schools and positively impacts the lives of millions of Australians. Mixing humour, vulnerability, and emotionally engaging stories, the Resilience Project GEM uses a unique approach to connecting with its audience.
The Resilience Project GEM initiative focuses on three aspects of mental health: gratitude, empathy, and mindfulness. Each of these can be practised each day and are beneficial to one’s overall health.
By noticing the positive aspects of everyday life and being thankful for these experiences, one can express gratitude. As the first aspect of the Resilience Project GEM, it’s about recognizing what is here and now, not worrying about the future or things not present.
Similar to kindness and compassion, empathy should be shown at all levels and to all individuals. Putting ourselves in others’ shoes and making decisions that take others’ feelings into consideration are great examples of empathy.
Finally, practising mindfulness can look different for each and every person. However, meditation, concentrating on one thing, and slowing down are all acts of mindfulness. Having a strong sense of self-awareness is extremely important to improve or maintain mental health.
Leaders of Evolution
Like the Resilience Project GEM, Leaders of Evolution also has a unique combination of project-based learning and personal growth and development. We focus on social and emotional learning so that students become well-rounded leaders. As an organisation that specializes in virtual engagement and online education, Leaders of Evolution is skilled in delivering the curriculum. In fact, our curriculum is aligned with the national Australian Curriculum and state regulations.
In total, over 267 schools have partnered with Leaders of Evolution and seen positive impacts for students, teachers, and school districts. After working with us, students will learn to become independent and efficient workers, teachers will learn to better support and evaluate their students, and schools will recognize the importance of future workforce skills and engaging learning.
Through our online courses, Leaders of Evolution is working to inspire career-ready leaders of tomorrow and give them the skills they need today. By doing so, we are building and equipping the 2030 workforce. As a student myself, I will also be entering the workforce in the coming years. While I am working towards my degree and taking classes in my career interest at Syracuse University, I am also learning a lot about myself and my strengths through the education process. Leaders of Evolution does the same and makes student’s personal development one of their top priorities.
Future Skills of the Workforce
For students aged 16 to 18, we have created the “Future Skills of the Workforce” course. This course focuses on the skills needed to succeed both in your future career path and the skills needed to become a better friend, co-worker, or human being. We hope to reach over 100,000 student leaders by 2025. As this is now only 4 years away, we are eager to hear from you!
