7 Important Qualities Critical for School Leadership
When you hear the word “leader”, what do you think of? What qualities set a leader apart from their peers? What does it truly mean to be a leader? These are extremely broad questions because being a leader doesn’t entail just one quality or one trait. Being a leader doesn’t have to be limited in a certain situation or time frame. It doesn’t mean having a specific title or position. Anyone can be a leader at any time: it just depends on if you want to be one!
During my senior year of high school, I was the captain of my field hockey team. I was the one who helped my team overcome our losses and celebrate our successes! If I thought that our team could do better at a certain skill, I would help us get there. I acted as a leader for my field hockey team. Because of my first-hand experience, I know the qualities and the skills one needs to have to become a leader. And these skills go way beyond the hockey field!
When you are one of 30 students in a classroom, it can be hard to stand out and prove your skills. Especially with the current climate and COVID-19 limiting in-person education, students and school leadership need to be a top priority. Leadership can be described as the process of social influence and maximising a team’s efforts to achieving a goal. No matter what age students are, school leadership should be a prevalent topic in their life. Education is one of the most critical stages of life and, therefore, should be prioritised. Education is continuously focused on improving student’s ability to succeed, which goes hand in hand with school leadership.
School Leadership Qualities
Here at Leaders of Evolution, we want to promote school leadership and help students in any way we can. We know what it means to be a leader and we want each and every student to know too! Here are 7 qualities that make a good leader and reinforces the importance of school leadership.
Not only being honest with others but also being honest with yourself is an indicator of a leader. Everybody makes mistakes and as the saying goes, “honesty is the best policy”.
- Strong Communication Skills
The ability to voice your opinions and thoughts effectively is another quality needed for school leadership. This can include both verbal and non-verbal communication!
With the advancing world we live in, it’s extremely important to be innovative and always looking for new opportunities. Leaders will be looking to stay ahead of the curve and focusing on the future.
A leader can always hold themselves accountable for the rest of the team, whether the consequences are good and bad. It’s all about setting a good example for others.
Being a leader isn’t always easy! It’s about finding the courage and motivation to complete any task, even when there are big challenges and obstacles in your way.
- Problem-Solving Skills
The ability to solve problems in a quick and efficient manner is an important quality for anyone to have, not just a leader. A leader will think outside the box and always find a way to win.
The last quality of a great leader is having self-confidence. How can you be leading and encouraging others when you don’t even believe in yourself?
